An EcoVillage is essentially a "Low Impact Sustainable Development" and it is necessary for this new model to be able to emerge as a legal alternative to conventional community and housing developments.
One of the biggest obstacles is in the building code and land use zoning. The Lammas EcoVillage in Wales set a global precedent in 2008 by receiving planning permission for a ground up EcoVillage development which is now being widely accepted and approved through the 'One Planet Development'
