In Nevada City, Ca our city council has begun the discovery process to creat eco-villages as a healthy solution for our homeless population and returning veterans. There are many aid organizations feeding and temporality housing this aspect of our population. In the US at this time we have somewhere around 14 million homeless, this number is going to quadruple in the next 5 years as people currently being provided for by family and social nets fall through to homeless designation. The time for communities to plan for this event is now, 14 to 70 million homeless in the next 5 years..............

Solutions that will empower this segment of the population is necessary, providing a means to contribute through growing food, these people want to work! Going locally through county land trusts and establishing a permanent home is a beginning. Here are some other communities following this model:

We will be open to all topics, but a suggestion is the benefits of community living. How will this social model benefit those involved at the larger community? Dee has discovered a few parallel programs evolving on the west coast which gives some support to our project. If you didn't receive these here are the links:
the second one is right down in Fresno!!!! you may have to copy and paste it in your URL.
The intent of this meeting is to build valid foundation for why this is a good model for including a manner of living that can benefit all, in a real and tangible way. Not only for homeless and veterans, but to benefit the communities in which they live. Instead of being an unwanted problem that is dealt with through many different social support nets that never get to the core of the problem. Shelter, work and sanitary living through empowerment, building self esteem and self regulation with guidance from external resources.

Look forward to seeing you all Monday.   Douglas
